Hello and welcome. A new site design is long over due here. I'm inspired by the ability of others and so I am using that ability to make up for the abysmal lack of my own talent in the world of graphics and design. Credits in the footer, of course. My goal here is simple: to dip my toe back into the stream of things and to reestablish my web presence; to introduce you to my life as it is now, a life which has undergone an intense metamorphic in the past five years; and to redefine myself, my life, my loves, my passions, my annoyances, and to make all of you suffer with me while I do so!.

Introduction

People ask me, "do you really like living in Berkeley?" The answer is yes; it suits me just fine, but perhaps not for the reason they think it does. I do not look back upon the summer of love with longing. I do not tilt at windmills in the desperate hunt for a cause. I do not plot my calendar towards the big week of Burning Man in the Nevada desert. No, I like living in Berkeley because it is a village masquerading as a city. It is community; filled with a diverse population: aging hippies, neo-goth homeless hipsters, the uber-intelligent, propeller heads from 'up on the hill', and the eye-candy that is the ever growing population of UCB students. Berkeley is a microcosm of society and its populace rages to either extreme. I like living here because Berkeley and its inhabitants make me look normal! Trust me, that takes some doing.

Surprise! A Blog

I have lived life out loud for a number of years. For some reason people seem to find what I have to say as interesting. There could be several factors which contribute to this phenomenon:

  • I pay them to say this (improbable at best)
  • Everyone is bored with their own life and yet find the life of another to be a wonderful escape from their own every-day existence (likely)
  • They think I'm more sexy than Kate Beckinsale in a latex cat suit (HIGHLY unlikely)

And so, The Muse Aamused: The Jaundiced Eye of Planet Berkeley

About the Author

I have lived out loud and proud in cyberspace since I first logged on to a local BBS service in Dallas, Texas in 1989. My real-life and online persona have become nearly indistinguishable one from the other since then. I am mostly 'at one' with my geekette status.

I strongly believe in the power of community local and virtual. I also believe that communication and shared knowledge is the most powerful way to give the community a voice in these modern times.

I currently call Berkeley, California my home. I work as a sales and marketing director for a small software firm in nearby Oakland. I am also the co-founder of a nano-technology start-up. (More on that as we're cleared to talk publicly about the venture.) I am re-emerging into the stream of life on my feet, through the help of friends, and by the sheer stubbornness I was born with. On any given day I write, I work, I observe the world around me and I take note of it. I enjoy the company of an enigmatic partner and a small, close network of intimates. I am accompanied in life by a whimsical trio of felines and followed by a happy-go-lucky dork dog. Life is good.
